Types Of Ride

We offer a variety of rides – usually on a combination of roads and tracks – at a speed everyone can do, with regular rest stops. We aim to ride at the pace of the slowest and always wait.

The rides start from various points around Stockport and South Manchester, and sometimes slightly further afield. For those unable to drive or cycle to the starting point, we advise on the nearest train station.

Each ride has a front leader, a back leader, and a corner marker, to make sure no-one gets lost or gets left behind.

We’ll help you build your confidence and your riding skills. And we can help to fix your punctures as well.

Many people who come out with us for the first time stay with us and ride regularly.

We provide two identical rides every weekend throughout the year, alternating between Saturday and Sunday. The rides depart an hour apart and are limited to 13 riders each (plus three leaders) and are bookable through a mobile app called Spond.

We also provide a daytime midweek ride, alternating between Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

During the summer months (end of April to end of August) we offer evening rides on Mondays and Wednesdays.

Saturday Rides

Saturday rides take place every other weekend and cover a distance usually between 15 and 20 miles. Many of the rides use traffic-free paths and canals, etc. Most rides are suitable for mountain bikes, hybrids, and road bikes with tyres with reasonable tread – but best to avoid skinny tyres and racing wheels.

Sunday Rides

Sunday rides, which also happen every other weekend, are a little longer in distance – at about 30 to 35 miles – and tend to be mainly on-road and on quiet lanes. There is usually a lunch stop, such as a pub or café, but riders are welcome to bring a packed lunch or snack. Riding is at the usual club pace but offers an opportunity to go a bit further afield.

Weekday Daytime Rides

New for 2024, we offer a weekly daytime ride of about 15-20 miles, which starts around mid-morning. These rides take place on a Tuesday, Wednesday or a Thursday (in rotation). Similar to the Saturday rides, the midweek rides are suitable for mountain bikes, hybrids, and road bikes with tyres that have a reasonable tread.

Monday/Wednesday Rides

During the summer months (end of April to the end of August) these rides meet on weekday evenings from various points within the Stockport area. The rides are mainly on quiet roads, tracks and easy paths. The same ride is provided on Monday and Wednesday, giving members a chance to choose the evening based on their availability. Distance is usually about 10 miles.
